A screeching sound filled the cavern and Drusilla turned, bloodred robes billowing around her, seeping into the shadows with perfect simplicity.
There it was again, she thought, senses sharpening with each movement.
Her long black hair framed her pale face perfectly, giving her a slightly elegant glow in the darkness.
Long, slender fingers pushed away a few stray strands of hair, revealing elongated faerie ears.
Drusilla's thin lips were pursed as she took a step towards the doorway, then another.
Although silent, these movements did not go unoticed, as everything was watching, listening in, and even the smallest things do not go unoticed in a place like this.
Drusilla flinched as another cry pierced the air, this one slightly louder than the last.
She had to keep going...
There was not much time...
Run.
And she did.
Drusilla raced out of the chamber, the sound of her own breathing getting faster and her heartbeat getting slower urging her to go on. Instinct told her she was not far now.
Suddenly, her ears pricked up and her back stiffened, and she came to a sudden halt.
Backing up against the wall, Drusilla pressed her ears to the door and listened.
Choked, rasping breaths emanated from the chamber, bringing Drusilla's mouth into a grim line.
This was not a situation she was familiar with; sneaking into a sorceress's lair in the middle of the night was not her idea of fun.
This was certainly the right door, she was sure of that. But the question was this: What was behind the door?
She wasn't nearly stupid enough to open it and find out, but there were other ways.
Bending down, Drusilla pressed the side of her head against the peephole and, breathing hard, looked through.
There was nothing at first, just blackness and gloom.
But then she heard it, the rasping sound so close it could've been right in front of her.
Just then, something large and white covered the peephole, blocking her view of the room beyond and chilling her to the bone.
Because that large, white something was an eye.
A huge, completely inhuman eye.
